Privacy Policy

1.Information We Collect

When you use the Service, we may collect information including your email address; order number and purchase information; product purchased and purchase status; purchase amount and currency; analysis usage and entitlement information; manuscript title; protagonist identified for analysis; analysis results and scores; page-referenced manuscript excerpts included as evidence in your report; completed analysis report; and technical information necessary to maintain access to your purchased analysis and report.

We do not require you to create a traditional user account or password.

2.Your Manuscript

Your manuscript remains yours.

Uploading a manuscript to Story Beneath the Story does not transfer ownership or copyright in your screenplay, novel, characters, story, dialogue, or other creative work to us.

Your uploaded PDF is transmitted to the Service over an encrypted HTTPS connection and processed in memory for text extraction. The original uploaded PDF is not stored by the application after that processing request ends.

The extracted manuscript text is maintained in your browser while your analysis is performed. The application does not store the complete extracted manuscript text in its server-side database.

Your browser may retain the extracted text in local browser storage until it is replaced by a new analysis or you clear the applicable website/browser data.

3.Artificial Intelligence Processing

Story Beneath the Story uses artificial intelligence to perform manuscript analysis.

To provide the Service, extracted manuscript text and information generated during earlier analysis stages are transmitted through the Lovable AI Gateway to the third-party artificial intelligence model used by the Service. The current application uses a Google Gemini model through that gateway.

Your purchase email, order number, and backup access code are not included in the manuscript-analysis prompts.

Because manuscript content must be transmitted to third-party AI infrastructure to provide the Service, you should not upload material that you are not authorized to submit for this purpose.

We do not currently represent or warrant that third-party AI providers never use submitted information for model improvement, training, retention, or other provider purposes. Those practices are governed by the applicable provider arrangements and policies and may change independently of Story Beneath the Story.

4.Completed Analysis Reports

When your analysis is completed, Story Beneath the Story stores the assembled analysis report so that you can access it again without rerunning your manuscript.

A stored report may include manuscript title, protagonist, nine-stage analysis results, scores, development findings, page references, selected verbatim excerpts from your manuscript used as supporting evidence, and completion information.

The Executive Summary is generated from the stored analysis information.

The downloadable PDF itself is not permanently stored by the application. It is generated on demand from your stored report.

Currently, completed reports are retained unless they are deleted through an administrative process or a deletion request is honored. We do not currently operate an automatic report-deletion schedule.

5.Purchases and Payment Information

Payments are processed through a third-party checkout provided by Systeme.io and its payment-processing infrastructure.

Story Beneath the Story does not collect or store your complete credit or debit card number, CVV/security code, card expiration date, or bank-account credentials.

After a purchase, the Service receives information necessary to verify and administer the purchase, which may include your email address, order number, product or plan information, purchase amount, currency, status, and refund or cancellation information.

6.How We Use Information

We use information collected through the Service to process and analyze manuscripts; identify and verify purchases; provide access to purchased analyses; generate and store analysis reports; allow customers to return to completed reports; administer analysis entitlements; process cancellations and refunds; maintain security and prevent unauthorized access; diagnose technical problems; respond to customer, privacy, and deletion requests; and operate and improve the Service.

We do not currently use advertising pixels, behavioral advertising systems, session-recording services, or marketing analytics tools in the application.

7.Browser Storage and Cookies

The Service uses browser storage to maintain manuscript text and analysis state while an analysis is being performed.

This information may remain on your device until it is replaced by another analysis or you clear the relevant browser/site data.

The Service also uses an access-session cookie after a purchase has been verified. The cookie is configured as httpOnly and secure to help protect the access session.

We do not currently use advertising or analytics cookies.

8.Third-Party Services

Providing the Service requires certain third-party providers.

• Lovable — application infrastructure, database/backend services, hosting-related functionality, and AI model routing.
• Google — the artificial intelligence model used to analyze manuscript content through the Lovable AI Gateway and web-font resources used by the website.
• Systeme.io — checkout, purchase, and payment-related services.

These providers may process information according to their own applicable terms, privacy policies, and contractual arrangements.

Additional service providers may be added as the Service develops. We will update this Privacy Policy as appropriate when our data practices materially change.

9.Google Fonts

The website currently retrieves certain fonts from Google-hosted font services. As a result, Google may receive technical information ordinarily associated with a web request, such as your IP address and browser user-agent information.

10.Email

At the effective date of this Privacy Policy, the application does not automatically send report-ready emails.

If email delivery is implemented, we may use your purchase email address to send transactional messages related to your purchase, access information, or completed report.

A report-ready email may include your manuscript title and a secure link to your report. We do not intend to include the report itself or manuscript content in such transactional email.

This Privacy Policy will be updated as appropriate when additional email services are implemented.

11.Report Security

Access to completed reports is controlled server-side.

A report is associated with the purchase that generated it. Report access requires either an authorized purchase session or an appropriate secure report link.

Secure report links use randomly generated tokens. The stored representation of the secure-link token is hashed, and secure links expire after a limited period.

Expiration of a secure link does not automatically delete the underlying stored report.

12.Data Retention

• Uploaded PDF: processed in memory and not retained after processing.
• Extracted manuscript text: stored in your browser and retained until replaced or cleared from that browser.
• Completed reports: currently retained without an automatic deletion schedule.
• Purchase and entitlement records: currently retained without an automatic deletion schedule.
• Purchase-event records: currently retained without an automatic deletion schedule.

We may retain certain transaction, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, dispute, or legal records for legitimate business purposes or as required by law.

13.Requesting Deletion or Access

You may contact us to request information about or deletion of personal information or a stored manuscript analysis associated with you.

Please contact us from the email address associated with your purchase when possible so that we can verify the request.

Deletion requests are subject to reasonable identity verification and to information we may need to retain for legal, accounting, security, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or other legitimate purposes.

Clearing your browser’s site data may remove manuscript text and unfinished analysis information stored locally on that particular device.

14.Security

We use technical measures intended to protect customer information, including HTTPS transmission, server-side purchase verification, access-session controls, report-level authorization, hashed secure-link tokens, server-side secrets, and database access restrictions.

No Internet-based service can guarantee absolute security. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, disclosure, loss, or misuse will never occur.

15.Children’s Privacy

The Service is intended for adults and is not designed for children under 13.

We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information contrary to applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to address it.

16.Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have rights concerning your personal information, including rights to request access, correction, deletion, or information concerning certain uses or disclosures.

To make a privacy request, contact reports@thestorybeneath.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

17.Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service evolves or our legal obligations or data practices change.

The updated policy will be posted on this website with a revised effective date.
